music wire springs

I have a mac book uni body (not a pro) with no fire wire and im trying to record my bands music.?
Im currently only using garage band but am planing on getting logic and im wondering if there’s another way to record other than just getting a 3.5mm jack to 1.8mm jack adapter thing. I would like to use a mixing board but am not sure if you mix music before or after the computer, and if i need an audio interface to use it with the computer? Or if there’s any point for having one at all.
Is there a website or some where i can go that will provide all this information?
obviously im not trying to make a major studio but would like to know a basic recording rig without using firewire, and how to use provided rig.
We have two guitars, one bass, one vocalist, and drums. all of which we have mics for.
Im supposed to start going to the Art Institute for music production in spring so id like to be able to use this to mess around with and record other people.
I know this question is all over the place but thanks for the help in advance.
Zack.
you could get a usb soundcard with multiple ins and outs. you would also need some mics and leads if you wand to record everything separately. Google usb sound cards and you should get a fair lot of results. check out Sound on sound magazine for reviews.

Searching for online music creator software programs can be difficult. The web is crowded with music making software packages that aresound303066_mixing_desk geared for a variety of ability levels. And there is a wide variety of price tags as well. In my quest to find the best music making software, I’ve researched many of these “make your own music” offerings. In reality I’ve found that most of them are simply not worth the money. However, I’ve recently found a music creator program that is certainly worth the investment cost.
