What are some good music theory books out there?
Right than Allons-y! I’ve asked this question twice now (this is the 2nd time) and well I haven’t gotten any good response. Can anyone recommend me a good music theory book(s) or DVD that maybe able to help me further understand music (i.e. scales, Key signatures, chords, imporv, ear training, circle of 5ths) and all that rubbish. If you can name price ranges and or website links. Oh yes just so you know I’m a beginner guitar player.
When I took theory in high school we used a book called Harmony and Voice Leading by Edward Aldwell and Carl Schachter. It was clear and easy to follow, and as I recall, there were several guitar players in my class, some of the beginners. I believe we used the 2nd edition, but I’m fairly sure it has been updated since then. We also used a software program called MacGamut which was really helpful.
