Ancient music script & notations?
Years ago I had heard that music was written differently than that of what it is today…(a natural evolution, so to speak). Is this true? If so, where could I find such work or copies of it? For example:
I understand that musical notes were written with a rectangular style (”symbol”) as far back as 300-600 years ago but was slowly changed (prehaps by the “ancients”) to a circle (”symbol”). Who did it? What monistaries, churches, societies, guilds, ect., did it? What was the prevailing thoughts at that time to change it? Who are today’s counter parts of the above mentioned organizations? Where can they be found? Was there any resistance to it as it was being developed? If so, who (what organizations) was doing the resistance?
