What Buddhists Must Know
Sakyamuni Buddha
He was born in Lumbini garden, under a Sal tree, when his mother Queen Mahamaya-devi was coming to her parents' home. The queen went a week after his birth. As a prince, he was named Siddhartha Gautama.
He lived from 566 to 486 BC. His teachings were passed down orally and they were only required to write on Ola leaves, in Sri Lanka around the middle of the first century BC. Buddha taught a period of forty five years. They consisted of three pots or divisions called Pitaka, which are the speeches, the Monastic Regulations and Abhidhamma. In all they consisted of 84 000 chapters around 5,000 of them are on speaker (Sutta). It has been estimated by researchers that if all the main points of the three baskets were entered in a book that set of books would be equivalent to 360 quantities of our average day encyclopedia.
If a person wishes to become a Buddhist initiation ceremony is not necessary. There is no need for baptism. If a person understands the Buddha's teaching, is convinced that his teaching is the right way and doing his best to follow it. So he is a Buddhist.
The four sacred Buddhist places: Lumbini, Bodh Gaya, Sarnath and Kusinara. Lumbini is now in Nepal, was the birthplace of Sakyamuni Buddha. Bodh Gaya, Sarnath and Kusinara is in India. Bodh Gaya was the place where Sakyamuni was reported after he moved from place to place in India practiced meditation for seven years. At Deer Park, Sarnath near Benares, he performed his first teaching, (turning of the Dharma Wheel) to the five ascetics with these discourses: Dhammacakkapavattana Sutta (Four Noble Truths & The Eightfold Path); and Anattalakkhana Sutta (soulless). Kusinara was the place where His final Nibbana. Buddha personally said that Buddhists who visit these four sites would travel to higher states.
He was born as an average person. It was a good sign because it means you and I can also become a Buddha. You do not to be the most intelligent of them country as the supreme 0.000001% of the population to be able to understand the Dharma to become a Buddha. If he was very intelligent, he would have attained Nibbana in the past, because as a child (aged 7) He was sitting under a rose bush apple tree (Bodhi Tree, Botanical name: Ficus religiosa) sees his father perform the opening ceremony for the annual plowing festival, he crossed legs and went on meditation and was believed to have reached different levels of Jhanas. He could have continued and practiced harder and successfully attain Buddha without using the six years that he did later. It was said that as a child sitting under the tree, trees shade remained protect him, although the location of the sun the sky had changed. So you see, devas protect good people.
As a young prince, a turning point in his life was when he observed a frog being swallowed by a snake and in that moment, a hawk swooped down and carried both the snake and the frog away.
How could an omnipotent Creator allow his creatures to be good prey for the others and to live in constant fear? All creatures either hunt or be hunted by others. Herbivorous animals are victims of other animals, including humans.
During one of his excursions, Prince Siddhartha came across a hermit, dressed in yellow rope, holding a bowl in his hand, looks very calm and perfect. The Prince stopped wagon and asked Channa, with curiosity: "What is this man? I love him to know."
The hermit approached the prince and said: "Prince, I am a holy man, a recluse. Seeing the world full of suffering, I have left it wandering in search of truth and peace. "
The hermit immediately retired and was out of sight.
In the evening came, as usual, a party of dancing girls to entertain the prince. Prince Siddhartha heard them and saw them, but might not be aware of them. He sat on the couch and was soon asleep. The entertainers stopped to rest. As the night advanced, they also slept.
Later that night, awoke the prince up and looked around. The dancing girls scattered across the floor like dead bodies. Some had their eyes completely closed, and some half-closed, appearing repulsive. Spit flew from his mouth. Noses were blowing. Many of them were snoring, with their Saree neglectfully disorganized. Some were biting their teeth, or muttered in his sleep. The whole scene looked more like a cemetery ground.
The prince left the hall to wake up the horse-groom Channa, and said, "Get my horse ready. I will go out. "
The Prince drove on and on, crosses the river anomaly, left her jewels, swords and clothing clip his hair, took the yellow rope and a begging bowl, to enter the woods, searching for truth and peace. His horse Kanthaka and all the other issues he condemned were brought back to the palace with Channa. He stayed seven days at Anupiya Mango Groove near River anomaly, and then proceed to Rajagaha, the capital of Magadha kingdom ruled by King Bimbisara. King Bimbisara came personally to see this mysterious hermit and also wanted to offer half the kingdom for this hermit. The Prince refused the offer, but promised the King that when he found the truth and peace, he would come back to visit the king.
During his quest, Siddhartha received training from many teachers, the finest them were: Asita, Alara and Uddaka, but found no truth and peace. Near Uruvela, he came across the five ascetics who were practicing asceticism. Siddhartha joined them, fasting for several months running, burning the body during midday sun in summer and spending a cold and frosty winter night, soaked in water. They used very rough clothings, and put thorns in their own body to conquer the temptation to touch, believing that could destroy the physical and get the real blissful nature of the soul. He gradually reduced his intake of food each day. His body was reduced to a skeleton, and his hair all fell off. The skin shriveled up he looked like a very old man.
One day, he fainted and yet not could find out the truth. It was then clear to him that asceticism was a wrong method. He remembered the string tension of Sitar to be either low or high to produce the correct pitch. He began to take food and gradually gained strength. The other five ascetics: Kondanna, Bhaddiya, Vappa, Mahanama and Assaji, was unhappy with him and left him.
The prince was alone. He sat under a Bodhi tree, beside the river Neranjara (now Phalgu) to continue the meditation, with a position within a week. A village girl, Sujata offered him some milk rice. After this meal, he continued to meditate under the Bodhi tree. Mara came and tried to intimidate him with storms and armies of demons. It was not a success. Mara then sent his three beautiful daughters to seduce him. It failed again. Siddhartha continued to meditate and in the same night, the Great Enlightenment dawned on him. He discovered ignorance was the root of all evils, and with the cessation of ignorance, would release achieved, and it would be free of Samsara. He traced a world of misery and found twelve links called Nidanas. He called them "Paticca Samuppada" which means "Competitive Access", ie depending on this coming. The process can be traced back and there was no beginning or first cause.
Buddhism does not teach the following:
Anything that pops up without a reason
good deed and bad deed produce no effect
that there is no after-life
that there is an omnipotent God
to earth was flat
Buddha said:
"Blessed are those who earn their livelihood without harming others."
I do not know what his omnipotent god then. But it was my mother who told me after the Chinese, it was Panku. Panku even claimed that he was the one who invited all the Buddhas of the universe, and that all Buddhas receive commands from him.
During Buddha's time, a deva who thought he was the Almighty God and a creator came down to earth to challenge Buddha. Deva wanted to kill the Buddha, unless Buddha kowtow to him. Buddha refused, but called Deva to play a game. The loser would kowtow to the winner. Deva was glad to accept this game. He suggested that the Buddha must find out where he was when he disappears out of thin air. Deva suddenly disappeared, but the Buddha found him. It was then the Buddha's turn to disappear out of thin air. Buddha achieved Nibbana. It is clear that the deva was a common creature could not find him. The deva kowtowed to the Buddha and left.
Another turning point in his life was caused by the following incidents:
see an old man: the pride of youth unemployment left him
see a sick man: pride in health left him
see a dead man: pride in life left him
His most learned disciple was Ananda (Buddha's cousin) and Ananda was the last of the 1250 disciples to reach Arahanthood. Ananda spent a lot of his time to serve the Buddha and guests of the Buddha. After the Great Decease of the Buddha, Ananda was less busy, and he concentrated on meditation, reaching Arahanthood while lying down. Before this, he addressed Mahakashyapa three times seeking help to achieve recognition, but was always turned down by Mahakashyapa. These words came from Mahashyapa to Adanda: "Only you can help yourself." Only then was Ananda realize that he had to depend on himself if he wanted to achieve enlightenment. He went to a secluded and solitary place to meditate and reach enlightenment. The case was at that time, he relied on no one and therefore there was no more attached file. This achievement qualified him to attend the first convocation of the Sangha in order to settle questions of doctrine and order of the text in the scriptures. This meeting was conducted three months after the Buddha's final Nibbana by five hundred monks who were Arahants. A Arahant have perfect memory. They met at Sattapanni Cave (On Rajagaha) to recite the Dharma and Vinaya, so it could be passed on to future generations. The Buddhist teachings were memorized by these five hundred monks, each monk was responsible for a certain parts of the doctrine. These monks took to the teachings of the younger monks, and that was why we still have Dharma day.
First Council meeting, sponsored by King Ajatasatta (done long before King Asoka was born) was led by Mahakashyapa, with 499 Arahants to settle issues of doctrine and change the text of Scripture, who recite and remember in Satiapanni Cave, which lies outside Rajagaha, three months after the Pari-Nibbana of Buddha. Ananda reached Arahantship the day before meetng started and was qualified to participate in this meeting. With his presence, there were five hundred monks. Thus Tripitaka was recorded and has been studied and practiced until today.
On 2 Council meeting was carried out 100 years later in Vesali, reviewing the findings from the first meeting.
On 3 Council meeting was done at Pataliputta, 200 years later, in 253 BC, under the patronage of King Asoka, completing the conclusions of the second session. This third meeting was attended by one thousand monks, whose main purpose was to liberate Sangha of corruption and bogus monks who held heretical views.
Subsequent 444-100 BC, because of famine and divisions in Sangha, it was necessary to preserve the Buddhist religion. King Vattagamani convened on 4 Council, where 500 monks reciting Buddha's teachings and wrote them on palm leaves for the first time. The written records was named Pali Tipitaka (Pali Canon).
Manjusri was the brightest of 1250 disciples, but he was not the first to reach Arahanthood. A person can not attain Nibbana of academic knowledge or intellectual reasoning.
Cula-panthaka was not able to memorize, a Pali verse, consisting of four stanzas of eleven characters in each, and forty-four characters all together, although he had spent four months trying to do so. But later told the Buddha him to reflect on a piece of white cloth, crush or squash it, recited "rajo-haranam, rajo haranam" which means: " enforcing dust that create dust. "Cula-panthaka was a Arahant within a single morning.
Buddha never claimed there was a royal road to Nibbana. But He taught that if a person should develop greeting (the Noble Eightfold Path) in the manner he described, in seven days, he or she would achieve full Enlightenment or State of non-returned. Buddha said: "Ehi-passiko" which means come and see. He did not demand blind faith, and he never condemn teaching of His opponents as sacrilege or heresy.
It is impossible to become a Sotapanna by simply appreciate what the Buddha teaches. You need to practice Samatha or Vipassana meditation. The beauty of religious practice is that at least someone is not afraid of death, and remains observant and restrained. Even if one fails to attain Nibbana after dissolution of the body is a road to a happy destiny.
Anyone wishing to experience the bliss of Nibbana must meet three conditions:
1) Find a teacher who can give the proper instruction in the technique of meditation and to associate only with men of integrity and wisdom.
2) Need to have an intellectual understanding of the teaching, example: hearing the true Dhamma because by studying and listening to discourses that winning the right framework for understanding experiences in meditation
3) Use to practice what they have learned.
One of Buddha's disciples was an older monk named Pottila that was bright and had a reputation for being an expert at extending in detail regardless learn the Buddha had given brief. Despite his popularity and reputation, Buddha called him "empty Pottila" and the truth dawned on him that he had not no wisdom, because he did not practice Dhamma.
Pottila looking for a quiet place to meditate, and realized that he had to find a qualified teacher. He went to a forest where there were thirty monks, all of them were Arahants. He approached senior monk and asked him for instruction. This monk politely dismissed fears that his simple technique would not be accepted by Pottila. Pottila went to look for the other twenty-nine monks and asked for the same. All of them refused, except the young monk who was still in doubt on Pottila's sincerity. He asked Pottila to cross a small brook. Pottila did. This young monk was then convinced that Pottila would follow his advice. He continued: "Here is an anthill with six holes and it lives a lizard. Someone will have to close five of the holes and leave just one of them open and he would be able to grab the lizard easy. "
Pottila respectfully saluted the young monk and said: "What a wonderful teacher you are, I fully understood, you must teach me anything further. "
The young monk asked what it was that he had understood. Pottila said: "Great teacher, I understand that there are six sense doors, I have to shut five of them and just open the mind door. This is how you want me to practice. "
Pottila found a lonely place, meditating for three days and reached Arahanthood.
Buddha was not a eternalist, nor was he a annihilationist (a person who denies the survival of personality in any form after death). According to him, only events that occur because of past relationships. But when asked whether the person was reborn, was the same as the previous one who died, the Buddha said that neither was the same or another person. Self, like other religions named as soul, Jiva, atma or spirit is not constant, everlasting or eternal. What's changing, and will not keep as long as eternity.
Buddhism is not completely deny the existence of a personality. It denies an identical or become a permanent entity. Buddhist term for an individual is santati, ie a flux or continuity. This santati was not created by an omnipotent god, and had no discernible source of the past.
The Buddha did not say Anatta meant non-existence of the self or nothingness. According to him consisted of physical and mental factors that constitute the so-called five aggregates. They are there, but there is nothing that is permanent. The five aggregates are: body, feelings, thoughts, volitional activities and consciousness, which is also the same as: eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body awareness.
According to Buddhism it is wrong to say: I have no self, (Which is the annihilationist theory). It is also wrong to say that I have a saying (it eternalist theory). In Alayaddupama Sutta, Buddha said: "O bhikku when neither itself or something related can really and truly exists, the speculative idea: the universe is that the Atman (soul), I must be that after death, permanent permanent, ever-lasting, unchanging, and I shall exist as such forever, "it is not wholly and completely foolish?"
The independent is most difficult for us to discard. After death, when we leave the physical body, we still cling to the self. This autonomy leads to rebirth in different spheres.
There are 31 planes of existence and our human world is the fifth in a row. It is the only planet where we people can see things around us with our naked eyes. From level 6 to level 31, all the heavenly realms. From level 1 to 4, in a world of ghosts. Ghosts are only able to scare people but are unable to physically hurt us. Otherwise, many people have died, taking into account that the ghosts can see us but we can not see them. Access to these 26 heavenly realms are within reach of people who perform good deeds on this earth. No god holds the keys to them heaven and no god who decides who goes there and go to hell.
Buddhists believe that there are about 1000000 planetary systems in the Milky Way alone that life exists and that world systems are infinite in number. If science can not prove that there are countless other galaxies, it does not mean that they do not exist. Our land is 1.3 million times smaller than the Sun. For more information on astronomy, go to the website of the Department of Astronomy, University of Cambridge.
When Buddha was asked the world's beginning, he said: "It is as if one man was wounded by a poisoned arrow, and when supervised by a doctor would say: "I will not allow you to remove this arrow until I have learned the caste system, age, occupation, place and motivation of the person who hurt me. "That man would die before they have learned all this. In exactly the same way I am someone who should say, 'will not follow the teaching of the Holy One until the Blessed One explains all multiform truths of the world'-that person would die; before the Buddha had explained all this. "
According Aggañña Sutta found in Pali Canon, the Buddha spoke to the monk Vasettha, a former Brahmin, on the formation of Earth:
"There comes a time Vasettha, when, after losing a long, long time, died this world. And when that happens, beings have mostly been reborn in the Realm of Radiance [as devas], and there they live, made of mind, feeding on rapture, self-luminous, traversing air, continuing in glory, and thus they are stored in a long, long time. There is also a time Vasettha when sooner or later the world starts to re-develop. When this happens, beings who had deceased from the World of Radiance normally come to life as humans … Now this time, had all been a world of water, darkness, and of darkness that maketh blind. No moon or the sun, no stars were seen, or constellations, neither was night manifest nor day, neither months or half months, not years or seasons, either women or men. Creatures were counted as beings only. And to those beings Vasettha before or Later after a long time, earth with its savors were scattered in the waters like a scum forms on the surface of boiled milky rice that is cooling, so did the earth out. "
This description is consistent with the expanding universe model and the Big Bang. Buddha seems to say here that the universe expands outward when a stabilizing point and then returns its motion back toward a central point leads to its destruction, this process again to be repeated indefinitely. Throughout This expanding and contracting process, the objects found in the universe undergo periods of development and change over a long stretch of time in relation to its surroundings, where they are. Buddha says that "beings" he described in this paragraph shall be attached to an earth like planet, get reborn there and remain there during whole life. As a result, characteristics of physical changes and evolutionary changes taking place. This is a very rough theory of evolution. The Aggañña Sutta presents water as a pre-existing earth like planets with the planet forming with water and the life that moves from water onto land. Buddha spoke of earth like planets in general, and it was also how our ancestors arrived on this planet.
Depending on his deeds, a person can be reborn as a hell being an animal, a hungry ghost, a man, a frightened ghost, a god of sensual heaven, an affiliated Brahma, or a bodiless brahma. Humans and animals have gross physical bodies, while ghosts and devas have subtle nonphysical bodies. The creatures in the Brahma realms where they have the opportunity to listen to Vipassana Dharma will attain Nibbana from these realms. One example was Dhananjhani practiced metta to reach jhanas, and ended up in Brahma kingdom, under the supervision of Sariputta. As instructed by the Buddha, Sariputa visited Dhananjhani on Brahma rich and gave a Vipassana Dhamma talk with Dehananjhani who achieved Nibbana directly from Brhama rich.
Buddhist Meditation involves no religious rites or rituals. It can be mastered by everyone except the mentally ill and drug addicts, regardless of their cultural or religious backgrounds, if they are willing to make the necessary effort. While practicing meditation and living a virtuous life, you appear to others as a useless, angry and defeated person. In reality it is just opposite.
When the five background is well established, Meditation will give good results and benefits. There is nothing religious about Five Requirements:
To refrain from destroying creatures
Refrain from that things are not given
To refrain from sexual misconduct
To refrain from false speech
To refrain from distilled and fermented liquids which causes intoxication & imprudence
Is there any religion or person who does not not accept the five clauses? When you meet these clauses daily, you can protect yourself and others. Will not our planet Earth then be a better place?
But if you're a Buddhist, meditation will strengthen your faith in religion. It is a mental discipline that eventually leads the mind to its purified state. It is a kind of energetic strivings lead to self-elevation, self-discipline, self control and self- lighting. It is a tonic for your heart. As you mediate, you breathe in cosmic energy and actually blow out your defilements. This will help to weaken your past bad Kamma, which you accumulated since the countless ages of the past. You need to do good Kamma to neutralize your bad Kamma. No one can undo your past bad Kamma.
For those who have committed serious crimes such as murder, during meditation practice, they can spread the idea of loving kindness and sell the benefits of this effort to them, they has killed in the past. It can help to create forgiveness, so the bad Kamma would be ineffective. If victims do not forgive them, and return to kill their former murderers, at least the past killers will now know that they only pay an old debt. Once the debt is paid voluntarily, the mind is not thinking of revenge, which will continue kammic retaliation. People with hateful minds fall into hell. When they come out of hell, they continue with revenge and retribution goes on indefinitely and the debt continue indefinitely. That was why the Buddha said:
"Hatred is not appeased by hatred but by love is hatred appeased."
Those who died while the mind was in good condition would be reborn in the blissful state of existence. Those who died while the mind was in neutral state would be born as spirits seeking rebirth. When these spirits remembered Kamma they did, they would be born into existence to suit their Kamma.
Buddha never taught meditation to put people in his forty five years ministry. In his time people had to work 365 days a year.
From Humane aircraft is eight levels of the spiritual world of existences as a skilled meditator with the right qualities through practice Vipassana meditation can discover and monitor. These realms are:
Dibbakaya: immediately above the human kingdom
Rupabrahmakaya
Arupabrahmakaya
Dharmmakaya
Sotapannakaya
Sakadagamikaya
Anagamikaya: Anagamis born here. They later meet Arahanship and lives on Arahattakaya realm until their live-term ends
Arahattakaya
It performed brokers can also see the four lower worlds, which are:
Asurayoni
Petayoni
Tiracchanayoni &
Niraya
Niraya consists of eight large levels of hell. The lowest step is the most painful one. We can call them B1, B2, B8 until the lowest. The creatures in hell can not die. They only become unconscious, will wake up again and suffer the same pain for millions of human years.
Loving-kindness (not carnal love or affection) is Metta in Pali. This Metta has a mysterious power, and is a miraculous ointment. A person with a pure heart can radiate this benevolent force that is able to transforming the wild animals in tame them and murderers into saints. You think not? Why do you think that insects and animals in the jungle can live peacefully with the monks, side by side? Buddhists were the first people to establish forest reserves for animals. Buddhist Metta includes all living creatures, seen or unseen, animals included. Metta reject darkness, and thus keep sounding off.
Nimittas is light you see in meditation. These are mental signs. For most people, they are pretty light in different colors such as white blue, purple, gray, yellow, orange etc. Sometimes the light and unstable, vibrating or flashing and changing shapes, like clouds.
Some people also see their eyes or faces live for their mental eyes when their eyes are closed. It is very normal and we should not be linked to them for our own safety.
Tell yourself that these are your own creations and are therefore not genuine. Sakyamuni Buddha said very clearly that he would not be able to return to this earth, knowing that after his era many fakes seem. The next Buddha will be born as a person when Buddhism no longer exists on this earth. He will practice at own as a common welfare and ultimately attain Buddha and will be able to inform others.
Sakyamuni named namely as Metteyya has now Tusita Heaven. Tusita is a world of people who have perfected the prerequisites for Buddha, waiting for an opportune time to appear in the human realm to achieve Buddha. It life span of beings in the sky equivalent to 576 million Earth years. The devas in Paranimmitavasavati Realm live up to 9.216 billion human years. In this realm, the devas do not create objects themselves, but they control the objects of pleasure created for their use of attendants.
Creatures Nimmanrati heaven live up to 2.304 billion Earth years. They have the ability to create objects of sensuous enjoyment of the idea for what they want.
For more advance practitioners within the next couple minutes after nimitta, maybe couple of hours, days, months or years (depending on how well you have previously applied) Jhana will happen by itself later.
The the Buddha: for the person who indulges in Jhana, the four expected outcomes: Stream Winner, Once-Returner, Non Returner or Arahant. When the mind achieves a state of absorption, which is quiet contemplation, the attainment of "Jhana".
When Sakyamuni Buddha attained during Bohdi tree, discovered the Dharma He was very difficult to understand, and he thought of leaving this earth at this time. Fortunately Brahma Sahampati down from heaven to invite the Buddha to expound the Dharma.
Quote:
"These Lighted them about the past, the future and in the present age, which remove sorrow for many – all of them lived, will live, and liver respects the noble Dharma. This is characteristic of the Buddhas. "
Unquote.
Perhaps during his previous life, he made a wish as for his last birth as a man, he would be a normal creature grow up, get married and have children to show the public that they do not need to shave hair to attain Nibbana, just a couple did during Buddha's time. They were both acrobats, earn a living around all parts of India. But this incident happened at Rajagaha, the modern name is Rajgir.
When Buddha came to another place nearby, left the crowd of acrobats to see Buddha. Buddha knew this was the cause Uggasena problems which would prevent his development that he had trained very hard to act and no one was to see it. Buddha told Moggallana inviting Uggansena to perform for the Buddha.
When Uggansena approached the Buddha, the Buddha taught him for a while and told him to come down from the top of the bamboo pole as a monk. Uggansena actually attained Arahanthood, while he was on top of the rod that performs summersault. He came down and was admitted as a monk on the spot when a person acquires Arahanthood that the person will leave this world automatically within seven days unless he or she becomes a monk or nun. Because of the practice done in many previous lives, can a person have accumulated sufficient inherent quality of intelligence and can attain Nibbana just by listening to a sutta. His wife soon became too busy in the Nunnery and reached Arahanthood. When a Arahant leave this world, his physical body can not be consumed by our earthly fire. The fire that consumes the physical body must come from Arahant themselves. There will be no residue.
Buddha called even its supporters to continue making money. People should be rich enough to make their profits without inconvenience. He said each agency must submit quarter profits for the rainy day (our CPF or pension funds today), and using a second-quarter of the remaining amount for the family's survival, to make the Dharma, and invest the remaining portions of the firm or the economy grows.
The Buddha was not a vegetarian. Buddhists do not have to be vegetarians. There was a fisherman who called Buddha to a meal in fish curry. Buddha personally went to the fisherman's hut to accept the meal, because he wanted the poor fishermen are able to receive profits. Buddha fisherman told not to change professions, although Buddhists were and still are advised to refrain from killing. Buddha is also clear that citizens had duties to act up arms to defend their country.
During Buddha's time, poor fishermen have to use nets and boats from other people. When these fishermen back to the coast every afternoon, boat owners would be at the beach to collect the catches of the day, and they sell the fish at the local market before sunset. Fishermen were paid by the weight of the catch, and all fish must be sold to the boat owner. In the case of the fisherman mentioned above, he had to hide the red fish by burial it in the sand until the owner of the boat went away.
Buddha's attitude to the fishing industry as was made clear during the following discourse:
Quote:
Do you see that fisherman, monks who have slaughtered one haul of fish, is selling fishnets? I've never seen, monks, or have I heard of such a fisherman as a result of his actions, because of his lifestyle, going around on an elephant or horse in a trailer or vehicle, or partying or living in abundance of great wealth. Why is this? It is because he gloat evilly on fish slaughtered or put to slaughter. It's the same with the butcher who kills and sells cattle or sheep or shine or game or forest beasts. It is because he gloat evilly that they are slaughtered or put to slaughter that he does not walk around on an elephant or life in abundance of great wealth. Actually monks who he gloat evilly of animals slaughtered or taken to slaughter, being neither one that goes around an elephant …. or one who lives in abundance of great wealth. But he who gloat evilly on a human being slaughtered or taken to slaughter – this will be woe and grief for him for a long time to break up in the body after death would he occur in waste in Bad Bourn in Fall in Niraya hell.

There were cases in which non-Buddhists who wanted to show that their religions was superior to Buddhism, consciously questioned the monks about how Buddhism was that introduced 2,600 years ago could still valid today. They pointed out examples of Buddhists today who have to cull animals. In these cases the killing is acceptable, because we have to save the lives of millions of other lives. For example, if you encounters a man who comes to shoot a second person and you kill the attacker on the spot, you do not commit the bad Kamma to kill because you save a second person. This example was given by Buddha.
But if a country attacks another country for selfish reason, and a citizen of joining the armed forces, in the process he kills some of the so-called enemies, he creates a personal Kamma to kill.
Fast Kamma committed with speech, mind and body. The example would be a premeditated crime. Every thought, utterance and action is a seed that matures over time. Every one has the potential at any time alter the course of future Kamma, by doing good deeds. Buddha personally said: "If there is no way out, I will not be teaching you today".
Collective Kamma is created when a group of people For example, go and set fire to destroy buildings and living creatures. The resulting Kamma will be about the same for the future of this group. They will be burnt to death in their future life and their properties will be destroyed by others.
Kamma means retribution or reward, present or future lives. How do we account for the unevenness in this unbalanced world? Why would identical twins, inheriting like genes, enjoy the same privileges that intellectually and morally completely different? Poverty and want are the results of miserly thoughts and deeds in previous lives. Deformity due to past bad Kamma. Human birth is due to a previous good Kamma. Cunda, a butcher who lived near the Buddha's monastery, died screaming like a pig because he slaughtered pigs to earn a living.
There are common Kamma, Kamma fixed and collective Kamma. It is nature's law. Every good action will result in good Kamma and every bad action will result in bad Kamma. Nobody can escape from it except Buddhas and Arahants whose actions would not create further Kamma. But Arahants and Buddhas are not exempt from the effects of the infinite effective Kamma, for example, was Arahant Moggalana slaughtered and cut into pieces by thugs.
Kamma is not stored anywhere. Like mangoes are not stored in the mango tree. But when the right conditions is the fruit spring up Having season. The kammic energy created by sentient beings not spread until it has its effects, or until it is dissolved. For example, when power becomes sick Arahants or Buddhas, and they have reached Parinibbana regardless kammic energy has been abandoned, it will automatically become defunct.
Healthy approach gives good results, which will lead to happiness here and hereafter. The ten Kammically wholesome acts are: generosity, morality, meditation, reverence, service, commitment merits, rejoicing in the merits by others, hearing the doctrine with respect, teaching doctrine, and correcting the erroneous views of others.
Unhealthy actions have painful consequences that can result in this life or hereafter, sooner or later, when suitable conditions exist for maturation can take place. Thus, whatever actions you have done well or evil, they will inevitably reward yourself with either joy or suffering. Retributory Kamma can be strengthened or weakened by the current efforts, such as good or bad deeds you do now. The ten unwholesome actions are: killing, stealing, sexual misconduct, lying, slander, harsh speech, gossip, greed, ill will and wrong view.
There are three types of kammic energy is that which will produce immediate effects. The next is the one that will produce the following effects. The last is one that has unlimited effects.
The five types of obese Kamma is:
The creation of a schism in the Sangha.
The wound of a Buddha.
Wounded of a Arahant.
Matricide
Parricide
The above five acts will definitely effect in subsequent lives. One example was King Ajatasattu who would have attained the first stage of the saint if he had committed parricide. The second example was Moggalana who killed his own father and mother during a previous life. Moggalana was killed by thugs, even though he was a Arahant and had psychic powers. Moggalana tried to use his psychic power to avoid the thugs who came to to kill him, not because he was afraid to die. He did not want thugs to suffer the bad Kamma to kill a Arahant.
King Ajatasattu will be a Pacceka Buddha in the future when he has paid his bad Kamma.
The weighty Kamma given top priority to produce rebirth, followed by near-death Kamma, habitual Kamma Kamma and reserve. All we got after our Kamma and have to go after our Kamma.
Life is the energy, mental, kammic and cosmic, all together. When one life ends, the mental energy build another house. This body is not life. It is a house built of energy, with four cosmic elements, earth, fire, water and air. We are here because of causes and effects. Our past has given us at the moment but the future is in our hands. Each atom in our body consists of 90% empty space. Therefore 90% of a person's physical body is composed of empty space. Volition or desire that is extremely strong during lifetime becomes prevalent at the time of death and conditions following childbirth. This last thought-moment presents a particular potential. The stream of consciousness in this house flows from birth to death and from death to rebirth, in accordance with the natural law until that person obtains Nibbana. These natural laws operate unfailing and relentless. Rebirth-consciousness in a dying man flows into another body after his Kamma, because this life-stream is not destroyed. The kammic force which drives it still exists. A thought process that conditions the future existence occurs in the dying moments. This last thought is called reproductive Kamma. Death is only temporary cessation of a phenomenon. As the dying person becomes a different form, as either the same or completely different, rebirth takes place according to the potential thought-vibration generated in death moment. This kammic force operating life-flux, as the dying when bhavanga, a subconscious level. From this level, life-flux that preserves the past Kamma, into new cell at the beginning of another life, which is when a sperm meets an ovum. The fetus develops every day through the four main reasons: Kamma, consciousness, temperature and nutrition. The past evil Kamma will cause deformity. So if we do not want to be born with malformations, we must stop cruelty now.
A dying person can see a Kamma action which he had performed during his earlier life. He can remember the plot as if it has been renewed, being done at the time. This is a recurrent of consciousness as experienced while performing the operation. He can see the characteristic symbol of the place where he is bound to be reborn. This Gati-nimitta (a sign or symbol), such as fire, lit the lamps, weapons, meat, blood, the heavenly mansions etc displayed as clearly as a object you see in full daylight.
This consciousness is not immutable soul. It is Tanha (attached) leading life process to go at. During a creature's conception in the womb, the first consciousness that occurs at the moment is called re-linking consciousness. This link previous life to present life. Of course, the unique character of an individual stamp on the cell structure at conception. The transferred qualities and talents from past lives, can lie dormant or hidden to varying degrees, and is not obvious. With each new body, we begin again, which means that our past performance is not just drop down from the sky. But when appropriate mode is displayed, these qualities and talents will come into force. We will easily learn them in this life. Some good examples are the musical prodigy like Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, Dvorak and Richard Strauss. Other prodigies are: Trade, Schubert, Chopin, Samuel Wesley and Christian Heinrich Heineken. Heineken to three years, was able to speak French and Latin, and at four years, began to study religion and church history.
Four kinds of birth Date:
Egg-born beings (andaya)
Worm-born beings (jalabuja)
Moisture-born beings (samsedaya)
Spontaneous births (opapatika)
Birds and oviparous snakes belongs to the first group. The next group belongs to all people, some devas inhabiting the earth, and animals that takes conception in a mother's worm. The third group belongs to embryos which takes moisture as nidus for their growth. The last group belong to PETA, devas and Brahma. Spontaneously born beings are not visible to the physical eyes, and when they die there is no residual left.
A person's life on this planet can be compared with an oil lamp, which can be liquidated due to one of the following:
Exhaustion the wick (the end of the age limit)
Exhaustion of the oil (the end of Kammic force)
Exhaustion of both wick and oil (sunset of both age and Kammic force)
External cause as a gust of wind. (Gust: accident)
Suppose wick is life people now and that 80 years is the limit. After age 80, a person must be dead. But if he had very good and strong Kammic force from former lives, he will not die at the age of 80, when a very powerful good Kammic force is able to lift the energy of the final thought process and can change the course of an event. For a person with very poor, powerful Kammic force from past lives, death is certain. The accidental deaths can be compared with the light being blown out by a gust of strong wind, and therefore is misplaced death.
According to Buddhism is the ball of light inside the human body are located at two finger-breadth above the navel. It is seat of life, which we call consciousness, spirit or soul. It leaves the body after death, and continues life after life, reborn in different levels under Kammic fate of the 31 planes of existence, until relief is obtained by following the Noble-eight-fold Path of Buddha's teachings. This consciousness (Citta in Pali, which consists of mind, heart and consciousness) is insignificant, faceless and formless, will continue to search for his true identity, could only be achieved when all qualities of perfection is developed in his character has evolved into a perfect being called Arahant or Buddha. When Buddhism speaks of the heart, it is not referring to the device, which pumps blood around the body.
If you are convinced that we are entangled in a web Kammic that can still be put in order, you will naturally try to learn from the example of Buddha or his disciples. We must admit that our disadvantages and underdevelopment prevent us from realizing the truth.
When you experience disappointment, frustration, misery and suffering in various forms, you must admit that it is you who creates destiny by your own thoughts, words and deeds. You are builder of your own life, because sooner or later what you have given life, you will receive.
Effects of Kamma would not be immutable forever, and eternal suffering, which is alien to Buddhism. Our past activities from time immemorial for countless lives, along with other factors, cause the good and bad we are experiencing now. We should overcome our bad fate of a larger effort in doing good deeds today.
There are three methods to make advantage: charity, morality and meditation. During meditation, there deserves automatically because of the clear thinking about when you radiate loving kindness and your mind does not think bad thoughts or bad intentions. Loving kindness is a miraculous ointment. Stands out as a result of the practice of meditation can be transferred or shared by creatures from other realms, both those who are still alive and those who had passed away.
Benefits consequence of making the material bids can only be devoted to creatures that have been reborn as Peta or hungry ghosts. If they are reborn as humans, animals, hell beings, or celestial beings, they can not receive those profits.
We are fortunate that not every bad deed we committed, shall recovered. If every bad deed, to be repaid, the entire cosmos fully deterministic and there is nothing we can do to liberate us. Buddha was an example of a person who did not have to wait for all his past bad deeds or bad Kamma to work it out. The same principle applies to all these Arahants.
All of us have the mental qualities needed for the task of awakening if we want to develop them. When we succeed, we Arahants or Buddhas. Notwithstanding the poor Kamma we still have not recovered would be there to haunt us if we reach Parinibbana. That was why the Sakyamuni Buddha and many Arahants was physically hurt, as long they still have human bodies.
Yasa Kulaputta from Benares, was the son of a wealthy merchant. When he visited the Buddha, the Buddha transformed him and made him to a disciple. Then Yasa four friends: Vimala, Subahu, Purnajina and Gavampati, all from wealthy families also left home and became disciples of the Buddha. Later in a second fifty friends of the five disciples joined them, making a total of fifty-five disciples. Before these fifty-five monks, there were a second group of five monks who actually was practicing austerities of Buddha to be at a place near Uruvela. One of them was Kondanna who was also the first to reach Arahanhood among the five ascetics, after the Buddha preached Anattalakkhana Sutta them. Sangha was formed with these sixty disciples, all of them were Arahants, led by the Buddha.
Buddha addressed them:
"Jump In, Bhikkhus, and wander up to a profit of many, the welfare of the many, in compassion to the world, for the good of gains. For the welfare of gods and humans proclaim O Bhikkhus, the Doctrine glorious, preach in a life of holiness, perfect and pure. "
Buddha's father, King Suddhodana sent his chief minister with one thousand men, to invite the Buddha two Kapilavatthu. These men arrived in Rajagaha, capital of another kingdom, but Having listened to the Doctrine of the Buddha, were all converted and ordained as Bhikkhus and forgot to give the king's invitation. One party after another was sent to invite the Buddha two Kapilavatthu, all of them failed to convey the message. That was until the tenth similar batch was that Buddha was told about King Suddhodanna's invitation.
The Buddha, with all his disciples Bhikkhus all Arahants, started from Rajagaha for Kapilavatthu. When he reached the Palace at Kapilavatthu, bowed King Suddhodanana down at his feet with tears in his eyes. If you want to remove suspicion and disbelief in the mind of his relatives, Buddha levitated into thin air from the soil and produced water jets and fire his whole body. Only after this show have uncles, aunts and other relatives believe he was really a Buddha, because this act was unheard of before, and only a Buddha had ability to do so.
Abhidhamma (Higher Learning)
Buddha argued Abhidhamma, not in the human world but to the assembly of devas in heaven Tavatimsa (where life is 36 million Earth years), during his seventh annual rains retreat. He ascended to heaven Tavatimsa, sitting on Pandukkambala stone at the foot of Paricchattka tree for three months to teach Abhidhamma to devas who had gathered from a thousand world systems. Chief beneficiary was his mother Mahamaya-devi, who was reborn there. The only reason he did not preach Abhidhamma in the human world was that the discourse demanded three months' unbroken continuity as no human was capable of on this planet. Only devas and Brahma could remain in one position for such a duration.
According to Abhidhamma there are eighty-nine classes of consciousness.
During the three months down the Buddha to people worldwide every day to go on almsround in the northern part of Uttarakuru. After collecting almsfood, he went to the banks of Lake Anotakka two have his meal. Sariputta will meet the Buddha and receives a summary of teaching as day in the deva world. Has taught Dhamma, Sariputta turn taught it to his 500 pupils, and hence textual Recension of Abhidhamma was established.
It is believed the number who met Nibbana was lager among devas than among men.
The area covered by the Buddha when he taught was about 250 miles from east to west and about 150 miles from north to south, some covered modern Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Tarai of Nepal. He was able to fly into non-subsidized air, but very few people have seen him fly. He went from place to place most of the time, and he approached people who were willing to profit from his teaching as the following story shows:
An ascetic met Buddha
An ascetic, Pukkusati, not a Buddhist, was traveling from one part of India to another part, looking for Buddha, which he only heard about but had never met. He came to Rajagaha. In the dusk, he approached a potter Bhaggava and asked for permission to spend the night in his stable. Potter agreed. Later in the Buddha also came to hut, and also requested permission to spend the night in the same barn. potter had no objection provided that the other hostel did not object. Buddha was offered permission to reside there by wanderer. They did not know each other. Buddha asked the ascetic who his teacher was. He said he had no teacher, but have heard of a Buddha and was on track to look for him and although he would meet with the Buddha, he would not recognize him. Buddha talked about Dhatu-Vibhanga Sutta (an analysis of properties) to the ascetic and ascetic realized that the person in front of him was Buddha. He immediately kowtowed him many times and asked for permission to become a monk. Buddha agreed and told the ascetic looking for a dress and a bowl so he could ordain him. The ascetic went out that evening to look for two things. Before he got them, a bull at him killing him on the spot. But he achieved Arahanthood, confirmed by the Buddha when the other monks who came to the cottage later asked how Pukkusati would be caused by the incident.
Kisagotami and her dead baby
Kisagotami was the daughter of a rich man from Savatthi, she was known as Kisagotami because of her slim body. Kisagotami was married to a rich young man and a son was born to them. Boy died when he was just a toddler and Kisagotami was struck by grief. Does the body of her son, she went on to require medication that would restore her son to life from all she came to meet. People began to believe that she was insane. But a wise man seeing her condition thought that he should be of some help to her. Then told he her to approach the Buddha.
She went to the Buddha and asked for medicine that would restore her dead son to life.
The Buddha told her to get some mustard seeds from a house where there had not been dead. Carrying her dead child in her bosom, Kisagotami went from house to house, asking on some mustard. Everyone was willing to help her, but she could not find a single house where death had not occurred. Then she realized that she was not the only family had been subjected to death, and that there were more people dead than alive. Once she realized this, her attitude to her dead son changed. She was no longer attached to the cadaver her son.
She left the corpse in the jungle and returned to the Buddha and said that she could find no house where death had not occurred.
So Buddha said, "Gotami you thought that you were the only one who had lost a son. As you have now realized Death comes to all living beings; before their desires are satiated death takes them away. "
On hearing this, Kisagotami fully realized vanity, unsatisfactoriness insubstantiality and aggregates and obtained Sotapanna.
Shortly after Kisagotami was a bhikkhuni. One day, when she was lighting lamps she saw flames flare up and die out, and suddenly she clearly perceived the arising and perishing of creatures. Buddha, through supernormal power, saw her from his monastery, and sent them his charisma and seemed to her personally. Kisagotami were told to continue meditating on the impermanent nature of all beings and to strive hard to realize Nirvana.
Women's role in Buddhism
Before Sakyamuni became a Buddha, the most important role for women in India were to keep house after the wishes of husbands. Education was not important to them and they were not allowed to remarry. They were told to jump into the fire of their man. Buddha said both men and women were useful to society.
In the Buddhist family, both men and women share equal responsibilities and perform their duties with equal dedication. The man believes wife, a friend, a companion, a partner. The woman will be a replacement for the man when the man happens to be able to work. A wife is expected even to familiarize themselves with trade, business or industry where the man hired so that she would be able to manage his affairs in his absence. Not this show in the Buddhist society woman occupies an equal position with the man?
Buddha's advice to the king of Kosala Pasenadi clearly shows that Buddhism does not consider birth of a daughter as an inconvenience.
The Buddha confirmed that women were able to realize the truth, just as men were. He allowed the admission of women into the Order, although he was not a believer in the beginning when he thought their inclusion would create problems in Sasana. When women proved their ability to manage their own affairs in order Buddha recognized their abilities and talents, and gave them positions of responsibility in Bhikkhuni Sangha.
Dhammadinna, Khema and Uppalavanna was Bhikkhunis who achieved Arahanthood and who was able to preach the Dhamma. Dharmadinna was outstanding with the ability to teach, Khema was outstanding in wisdom, and Upplavanna was outstanding miracles. More than 500 of them bhikkhunis reached Arahanthood during Buddha's time.
Some people who did not like the Buddha himself said he was poisoned by Chunda. It was highly unlikely because a Buddha or a Arahant could see what was in the food and they could see the viruses in the cup of water. There was no way someone could poison him. A Buddha can not be killed. He could however be physically hurt, because his bad Kamma made eons ago has not expired. After eating this meal, the Buddha was ill, but he came later. In that time he was 80 years old. Of course, he died of ill health later on.
Buddha actually told Ananda to visit Cunda (so Cunda would not be plagued by remorse) to tell him that it was a very promising act to offer a Buddha's last meal. Buddha said that if Cunda blamed, Ananda should stop it at saying: "This is good for you, Cunda and get you in to where Tathagata had eaten his last meal from your destination, then he died. From the very mouth of the Exalted One, Cunda, I've heard, from his very mouth, I have received that says: These two supply of food is fruit, and equal profit, and much more fruit and of much greater profit than any other and which are the two? The supply of food, as when a Tathagata has eaten He achieves highest and perfect insight, and offers of food, as when a Tathagatta took He walks away from the utter end where nothing remains behind – these two supply of food is fruit and equal profit and of much greater fruit and of much greater profit than any other. Has been put up by a blacksmith Cunda Kamma redounding length of life, redounding to good birth, redounding to good fortune, redounding to good fame, redounding to inheritance of heaven and sovereign power. In this way, Ananda should be checked any remorse in Cunda smith. "
The Buddha died (attained Pari-Nibbana) in a small town called Kusinara, in the open air, between two Sala trees, surrounded by his disciples. It was erroneously reported he died of food poisoning after eating a meal with rice and mushrooms donated by a lay follower who Cunda was a blacksmith. In some parts of India during the Buddha's time, it was a habit of poor people to gather mushrooms, dry them and keep them to use as vegetables for rainy season. Sometimes these mushrooms turned toxic. Even today are cases of people dying due to fungal poisoning.
The Buddha knew the food contained poison, but he did not want Cunda being offended by Cunda had not the slightest intention to poison the Buddha. Mushrooms were very bitter, but the Buddha ate them all without saying anything, thanked Cunda and left. Buddha later confirmed that the was impossible for him to refuse food because Cunda invited Buddha with passion and love that no one had ever tried it before.
Before reaching Parinibbana Buddha asked his disciples, and all were fans, if there were any questions they wanted to highlight. None did matter. This proved that he had learned us every thing we need to know to reach the Buddha. When Ananda wanted to know if there should be a successor, said the Buddha Dharma should guide after he was gone.
Buddha's last words were:
"Decay is inherent in all things
Be sure to strive with clarity of mind for Nibbana. "
(Unquote)
After Parinibbana of Sakyamuni Buddha, many non-Buddhist monks who are clothes, pretending to be Buddhist monks, and modified or knowingly false translated some of the writings, which were recorded in Sanskrit. That was why King Asoka, crowned in 273 BC, called the third meeting of the Council of Sangha, chaired by Venerable Moggalliputta Tissa Thera, on Pataliputta (Patna) and many other monks who were Arahants. During this meeting, schismatic monks and nuns were expelled from the Sangha. Between 100 and 200 years after Parinibbana of Buddha, a controversy over some monastic rules were decided by a committee of mostly Arahants against the views of the majority. majority introduced Bodhisattua ideals, and called himself Maha Sangha, who later became the Mahayana. The division into two opposing groups were actually started by Devadattha who planned to kill the Buddha by asking his cronies to scroll down by a huge stone over the Buddha's head, when Buddha walked along a hillside with a rock. The stone hit another rock and landed in the vicinity of the Buddha, only a rock splinter wound Buddha's toe. Enmity of the schism created by Devadattha lasted for many centuries. But today we have to respect all monks regardless of where they are cults because they are the ones who is seriously doing their best to rid themselves of greed, hatred and delusion. Their tasks are: to study, practice and teach the Dhamma. The monks have to follow the 227 regulations set down by Buddha. The nuns are forced to comply with 311 instructions. Laity can observe 5, 8, or only 10 of these regulations.
But this group of monks were faked would not be eradicated at all. They managed to continue even until recent centuries when the Nalanda International University was established. They even infiltrated the university as lecturers and professors. This university existed for seven centuries. And by 1193 CE, when the monks of this university were slaughtered and burned down the University of Muhammad Bakhtyar and his army, Brahminical ritual and magic was already included in the curricula of Nalanda College, resulting in a new type of Buddhism that could not be separated from Hinduism.
The Bhiksuni order in India ceased to exist when Muhammad Bakhtyar invaded India in the 12th century CE. In Sri Lanka Bhiksuni had ceased to exist with the fall of Anuradhapura in 1017 CE. The Order of Monks met the same fate, but was later revived by King Vijayabahu after he drove away Tamil invaders. King Vijayabahu invited monks from Burma to revive the monks in Sri Lanka. For one reason or another, he has not resuscitate Bhikkhuni (nuns) Order.
It was said that Buddhism would last only 5,000 years. Now we have only 2400 years back. As we move closer and closer this sasana, more and more people would come forward to destroy Buddhism. It was said the number would actually reproduce.
Buddhists do not extinguish afflictions by light incense and candles, and make promises to the so-called supernatural things. A unique Buddhism is that it teaches moral behavior without reference to heaven and Hell. Buddhism advocates a impermanence of all existence
